Jasmin Soriano (b. 2001) is a musician from Wichita, Kansas. They are currently finishing their Bachelor’s in Applied Performance at Kansas State University for their primary instrument, viola.
Jasmin has performed with the Kansas State University Symphony Orchestra (KSUSO), Kansas State University Chamber Orchestra, and a variety of string quartets, quintets, and sextets. Notable performances with these ensembles include James McCarthy’s Codebreaker in collaboration with the Kansas State University Collegiate Choral, the world premiere of Timothy Noble’s Alamo, and recordings of the works of Claude T. Smith.
Jasmin’s community engagement work with KSUSO includes their annual outreach events, String Fling and Tallgrass String Festival. With String Fling, they engage with middle school students for a day of fun music making while also building connections and experience with others still at the entry level of playing. With the Tallgrass String Festival, they assist with a variety of workshops for high school students aimed at further development of musicianship at a higher level. Workshops include preparation of excepts for All-State Orchestra auditions and presentations on studying music at the collegiate level.
As someone on the spectrums of Autism and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorders (AuDHD, as has become the internet lingo) Jasmin understands the unique strengths and challenges that come with neurodivergence as a performer. As a teacher, Jasmin believes that with care and adaptation music can be accessible to anyone.
